Green Revolution in Punjab, India
Photographer Harsha Vadlamani has been documenting the long-term effects of the Green Revolution in Punjab for several years. With support from a National Geographic Society grant, his project examines how the shift to a rice and wheat cropping cycle has affected the region’s groundwater, and how the widespread use of pesticides and fertilisers has contributed to rising cases of cancer and chronic kidney disease. He also looks at issues such as mounting farm debt, farmer suicides, and migration, tracing how agricultural policy continues to shape rural life in Punjab.
This page lists all updates related to his work in Punjab. To see the project, visit Heavy Lies the Grain.
